2010 Mid-Size Business of the Year
I. Spiewak & Sons, Inc.  - Roy Spiewak, CEO
Since 1904: House of the Golden Fleece

In the Autumn of 1904, Isaac Spiewak opened a business in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, producing handmade sheepskin vests that he sold on the streets of New York. His customers were the dockworkers on New York’s booming waterfront.
Over a century after its founding, I. Spiewak & Sons has grown into one of the premier names in uniform workwear. The authentic industrial line has been trusted by the soldiers of WWI and WWII and is currently being worn with pride by thousands of police, fire and EMS agencies around the globe. The authenticity and integrity of its designs has also earned Spiewak iconic status as a classic streetwear brand—considered by many to be America’s best kept secret—with a growing loyal following at cutting-edge boutiques and retailers across America and around the globe.
Some of the local agencies wearing Spiewak uniforms include NYPD, FDNY, NYC MTA, NYC DOT, NY/NJ Port Authority, NY Thruway and Suffolk County Police and Sheriff Departments. Other agencies or national accounts wearing Spiewak uniforms include LAPD, Chicago PD, Missouri Highway Patrol, American Airlines, Avis and Budget Rental Group, and the US Postal Service.

Some of the local stores carrying Spiewak fashion outerwear include the Co-op at Barneys New York, Lord & Taylor, Atrium, Frank Stella and Something Else. Spiewak fashion outerwear can be found nationally or on-line at Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, Zappos, Karmaloop and Urban.com. Personalities such as Shia Labeouf, Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Jim Carrey, Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Aniston, Chris Meloni and Jean Paul Gaultier all wear Spiewak jackets.
The company’s tradition of innovation and diverse appeal testify to the hard work and far-sighted vision that Isaac Spiewak brought to his business, providing the context for a remarkable – uniquely American and uniquely New York - success story at 106 years young.
